Common questions
I can't sign in.
Use your full @rutgers.edu or @scarletmail.rutgers.edu
address. Other email domains aren't supported. If you registered with email and a password, check your inbox for
the verification email first.
I don't see a course or a case.
Join your course with the class code from your professor (the
Join course button on the home screen). Professors decide which units are released. New cases arrive during the course's
messaging hours, and a patient may take a little while to reach out.
The patient hasn't replied yet.
Replies are delayed on purpose so they feel like a real patient
texting back. Some patients answer quickly; others take longer.
I'm not getting notifications.
Check that notifications are allowed for Pocket Patient in your
device settings, and that they're switched on (and outside quiet hours) in the app's notification settings, under the bell icon.
I'm a professor and can't create a course.
New professor accounts are verified by the Pocket
Patient team before they can create courses. Email us from your Rutgers address.
How do I turn off AI responses?
Tap the shield icon at the top of the home screen and turn off
"Allow simulated AI patient responses". You can turn it back on at any time.
A simulated patient said something inappropriate.
Tap the flag icon under the patient's message
and send a report. Reports are reviewed by the Pocket Patient team.
Delete your account
In the app, tap the shield icon at the top of the home screen, then Delete account. Your case conversations, scores, enrollments and sign-in identity are deleted. If you can't access the app, email tobiaat@rwjms.rutgers.edu from your account's address and we'll delete it for you. See the Privacy Policy for details.
